The Mosque is situated in the City of Hulme which is in the electoral ward of Manchester, England. It is south of Manchester City Centre and is an area with significant industrial heritage.

The North West Mosque project was launched on 4th March 2007 with Mr Rafiq Hayat, President of AMJ in UK. The foundation stone for the purpose built Mosque was laid by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (atba), the Fifth Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, on 8th March 2009.

The Mosque was opened on 27th April 2012 at a cost of £1.2 million by His Holiness. The Mosque can hold up to 2,000 worshippers and was entirely funded by members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. On the grounds of Darul Amaan Mosque, Huzur (atba) planted an olive tree and Begum Sahiba planted a fig tree.

The Mosque was opened when His Holiness delivered the Friday Sermon, which was broadcast globally on MTA International. During his sermon, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (atba) reminded the worshippers that it was not enough simply to build a Mosque but that it ought to be filled with sincere worshippers of God Almighty. He also outlined the true objectives of a Mosque in Islam also promoted inter-faith harmony and integration between people of all backgrounds.
